The theme of magical events taking place in the midnight solitude of isolated forests and meadows is an enduring one. Walt Disney’s “Fantasia” relied on the concept for at least a couple of segments. Any kid lucky enough to have regular access to wooded areas for play can likely attest to the impact these places have on the imagination. Note the movie “Big Fish” and the amazing town of Spectre that Ewan McGregor stumbles upon after wandering through a thick dark forest. And the great Canadian folk singer, Gordon Lightfoot, has a song called “The Pony Man” (http://gordonlightfoot.com/Lyrics/ThePonyMan.txt) that opens with the words “When it’s midnight on the meadow...” telling the story of a child’s wondrous dream.
