Light Cast Upon::Fine Art Photograph by Tarmo Peters
Light Cast Upon Print

Thank goodness for the fact that our minds are subjective interpreters rather than objective observers.  If our eyes only behaved like cameras we might not be motivated to take half the photographs we actually do.  In this case, it was surprising to see that the camera’s processing chip had not rendered this golden moment the way it truly “felt”.  As a result, it was necessary to peel away the layers of objective “lies” to reach the subjective “truth”, the truth that Mother Nature, in the end, would have agreed with, if only she had access to image manipulation tools.

Of course, photography is not completely about an emotional process of throwing colours at a canvas by using a camera like a paint bucket.  Clearly, the art of photography is counter-balanced by the science.  One could even argue that a highly objective observer, like a well-educated crime scene investigator, might be capable of creating incredible pictures because of an ability to instantly “see” the requisite position, angle and camera settings for the perpetration of the crime photo, along with all of the attendant psychological motivations.

Oh well, this photographer/picture maker doesn’t watch CSI anymore and still has a lot to learn about getting the simple things right.  The day was warm, peaceful and perfect and deserved to look like it, even if the photographic execution wasn't.  Perfect, that is.
