Future: Tense Print
Of all the images on this site, this is one of the best examples of a split personality. Printed on glossy paper it makes a bold statement about saturated colour and compelling patterns: the eye is drawn to the fiery tones and sharp, clear details. But when printed on fine art matte paper, the much more muted colours, the simple composition and the palpable image and paper textures, all promote its ability to complement décor: it accentuates without distracting. This picture also contains mystery and symbolism for those who are inclined to look for deeper meaning. So, will the magma-riven ledge crumble and send the beautiful bowl tumbling into the abyss? Is the bowl really just a bowl? And why is it on the edge? Oooooo.... Okay, somebody put it there on purpose. But still... for a moment, if you pretend and wonder about those, you know, deeper thingies... what might happen to that simple vessel (or “wessel”, for you Star Trek/Chekov fans)? As the heat rises and fracture or falling become highly probable, is it possible that this brainless piece of carved stone might contemplate its immediate future, if only for a millisecond, using its atomic bonds as a poor substitute for neuronal pathways?
Well, anyway...
... something to ponder while you burn out your retinas staring at
the pretty colours.
