Losing My Memory Lane
The story here could be that this path had been walked many times
before but it never looked like this. The trees used to be green,
flat ordinary green.
And then time passed.
Where did those other colours come from? And why are some of those
spruce branches looking so dead white? It’s as if the camera blew a
memory circuit or a flux capacitor or drifted out of phase with the
space-time continuum. Or something.
Or maybe it’s not a camera problem. Maybe this is how the path
should henceforth be remembered, real enough to not be confused with
Picasso’s view of the world (or require medication) but unreal
enough to resonate with the pleasant, adventurous dreams of days
gone by, where the chances were good that you would come upon
something very interesting around the bend, while you slept.
