Continuing with the theme of flora fantasies, this scene involving hawkweed growing innocently amongst a tangle of sumac trees, was nice by itself but needed “make-up” to focus the viewer’s attention. Indeed, it caught the eye of our resident jewellery artisan as we rode past on our bicycles while visiting Peterborough, Ontario. With her sharp eye and vivid imagination hard at work, she also pointed to the possibility of a winged pixie emerging in the lower right quadrant of the printed image. Can you see it? The picture is suggestive of a typical good-vs-evil confrontation where the menacing sumacs, with their clichéd ability to “reach out and touch someone”, were being thwarted by the magical appearance of a safe pathway, as established by the equally clichéd ability of lowly weeds to change the brightness of their flowers. Pixie power? “Curses, foiled again!” screeched the wicked Sumacius, lord of the Turquoisean Forest. Then again... ...maybe it’s just another way to get to Oz. You know, “This section of the Yellow Brick Road is currently closed for repairs. Turn left and follow Detour 39B”. Click here to see more pictures.
