Distorted Sense

This is a depressing interpretation of what was generally a very pleasant scene photographed on a nice day.  And, yes, it's the same location as "Pondering Pond" found on a previous page.

 

So, why depressing?  Did it become that way by converting the original warm pastel tones to a dark B/W?  What about the addition of the focus colors - did that cause some change in the emotional tone?  No and No.  The problem, the source of the negative mood, was in the original image: the willow tree in the background not only refused to look like a nice tree, it very agressively declared itself to be the upturned face of a young man in a baseball cap who is screaming under the duress of mental instability, brought on by who knows what.  But hey, let's call it a drug dependency.  Why?  Because that allows for the psychedelic flowers against the dispirited black and white background that represents this guy's potential future.  Or so the story goes.

 

And what about the bridge?  Does it represent the road to salvation for our unfortunate drug-addled sufferer or simply the dividing line between an intensely remembered ecstasy and the very currently experienced agony of withdrawal?

 

Don't buy this picture if you're happy and normal.  Unless, of course, you are very good at denying/avoiding reality, in which case you should look for work in advertising.
