Wistful Remembrance

Actually, the more accurate title would be “Wistful Remembrance of Ancient and Simpler Times by the African Goddess of Sky and Land, as She Simultaneously Tries to Contemplate the Addition of Complex Derivative Products to Her Really, Really Long Term Investment Portfolio”. It should be noted that right after this picture was taken, the Sky went black, the Land heaved, toilets stopped working, and locusts descended upon European financial “experts”. After a while, the toilets worked again but the experts were marked for all eternity and given day parole.

It might have happened.

This picture aims for a slightly different feel compared to earlier works. It’s fuzzier, kind of like some people’s understanding of what “debt’ means. The look is somewhere in between a photo and a painting and, as such, is vague about what kind of “brush” might have been used. The edges also suggest brush strokes without being clearly made by brushes. All in all, it strives for a painterly, Impressionism type of mood while not shying away from its digital/photographic origins. Coming to an understanding of how various computer processes can be wielded like paint brushes and charcoal sticks is making for a fascinating journey of discovery. More on that in due course.

So who is this wistful goddess? When you think about it, her name might be Agoskala. And maybe, long ago, she said to the people that the sky and the land are as one within her spirit and that she could be neither grown nor diminished. Sands may shift but what came from her stayed with her. Ashes to ashes, etc. Debts must be repaid, euro finance ministers notwithstanding.
