Vintage Newspaper Smocking Pattern
When my Mum was young, she used to send
away for patterns from the weekly newspaper. This is
one of them. The date on the envelope for this
particular pattern is October 27, 1949.
This is for smocking - it is a transfer
pattern. It says "These smocking patterns are to be
used on children's clothes, aprons, blouses, dresses,
dressing table skirts, lamp shades, bedspreads, or any
garment or household accessory desired."
There are 5 patterns, and oh, I like the
lamp shade idea!!!
It also says "To transfer pin strip
desired printed side down and press over it with a warm, not
hot iron. Punch a hole in each solid dot with a heavy
needle in an up and down motion so that the pattern may be
used to do as much smocking as desired."
